What are residential proxies?
A residential proxy sends your traffic through an IP address that an internet service provider has assigned to a real home connection, instead of one owned by a cloud or hosting company. To the website you are visiting, the request looks like it came from an ordinary household, which is why residential IPs pass anti-bot checks that block datacenter ranges.
BuyProxy's Core Residential product is a rotating pool: by default each request can leave from a different IP, and you can pin one IP for a set time with a sticky session when a task needs a consistent identity. You are billed for the bandwidth you actually use, per GB, with no per-IP fee and no monthly minimum.
If you are new to the idea, our plain-English explainer, What Is a Residential Proxy, walks through how the routing works and when you need one at all.
How rotating and sticky residential sessions work
In a rotating session, every request can leave through a different residential IP. That spreads load across the pool, so no single address sends enough traffic to trip a rate limit, and it suits independent page fetches such as search results, product pages and listings.
In a sticky session, you keep one IP across requests instead, identified by a session ID you pass with each request. Premium Residential lets you choose the length, from 3 minutes to 24 hours; Core Residential holds the IP without a set length. Use sticky sessions for logins, carts and checkouts, where the site expects the same visitor throughout.
When a sticky session expires, the next request with that session ID is simply given a fresh IP. No error is thrown, so build your retry and re-login logic with that in mind. Our docs cover session types and sticky sessions in detail.
Residential, ISP, mobile or datacenter: which should you use?
Choose by how strictly the target blocks automation. Datacenter and IPv6 proxies are cheapest and fastest but are recognised as hosting traffic. ISP proxies sit in between. Core Residential passes most anti-bot checks that stop hosting ranges, Premium Residential adds vetting for stricter targets, and Mobile carries the highest trust at the highest price.
Start with Core Residential for most jobs. If you see repeated 403s or CAPTCHAs, move that target up a tier; if the target does not care, move down to save money. The proxy type decision guide and the residential vs datacenter comparison walk through the trade-offs with worked examples.
What drives your residential proxy bill
You pay for bandwidth, so the main levers are page weight, retries and block pages. A blocked request still consumes data, which is why a cheaper rate with a lower success rate can cost more per successful result. Measure your success rate before you compare prices.
Practical ways to spend less: skip images, fonts and video when you only need text, request the lightest endpoint that contains your data, back off on 429 responses instead of retrying immediately, and cache results you do not need fresh. The cost-per-GB guide shows the arithmetic at 10 to 1,000 GB and the point where a monthly plan becomes cheaper than pay-as-you-go.
Using residential proxies responsibly
Residential IPs belong to real consumer connections, so treat them with care. Fetch public pages, follow each site's robots.txt and terms, keep request rates polite, and never use proxies for fraud, account takeover or other abuse. Our acceptable use policy sets the rules for the network.
If you are collecting data at scale, read our guides to whether residential proxies are legal and to responsible AI data collection. This is general information, not legal advice.
Core Residential Proxies features
72.8M+ residential IPs
A large rotating pool spread across 195+ countries, so you can spread requests widely instead of hammering one address.
Country targeting
Pick any of 195+ countries from the list in your dashboard. Core Residential targets by country; state, city and ASN targeting are part of Premium Residential.
Rotating and sticky sessions
Rotate on every request for independent fetches, or keep one IP for logins, checkouts and other multi-step flows. Premium Residential lets you set how long, from 3 minutes to 24 hours.
HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5
Use the protocol your stack expects, with authentication by username and password or by IP.

Card or crypto
Pay by card through Stripe or with crypto for top-ups. No sales call, no contract.
Reseller-ready
The Business and Advanced plans include the Reseller Program, so you can resell access through isolated customer accounts.

How to buy residential proxies
- 1
Create an account
Sign up with your email and verify it. It takes a minute and needs no card.
- 2
Top up bandwidth
Add as little as $5 pay-as-you-go, or choose a monthly plan if your usage is steady.
- 3
Generate proxy lines
Choose a country, a session type (rotating or sticky) and a protocol in the dashboard or through the API.
- 4
Connect and go
Paste the line into your scraper, browser or automation tool. Bandwidth is only used when traffic flows.

A good fit when
- Scraping, monitoring and automation against sites that block datacenter IPs
- Checking localized prices, ads and content by country
- Teams that want pay-as-you-go pricing without a monthly commitment
- Developers who want to manage proxies from an API or SDK
Not the best fit when
- Jobs that need one fixed IP for weeks (use a static or dedicated product)
- Bulk downloads of unprotected files where a cheaper datacenter or IPv6 proxy works
- Anything that violates a site's terms, the law or our acceptable use policy

Core Residential Proxies: frequently asked questions
How much do residential proxies cost?
Core Residential is billed per GB pay-as-you-go at the live rate shown on this page, with a $5 minimum top-up. Monthly plans include a GB allowance that lowers the effective rate further, and top-ups of 100 GB or more add a 10% bonus. Our pricing guide shows the cost at 10 to 1,000 GB.
What is the difference between rotating and sticky residential proxies?
Rotating sessions give you a new IP on every request, which suits independent page fetches. Sticky sessions keep one IP across requests, which suits logins and checkouts. On Premium Residential you choose how long, from 3 minutes to 24 hours. You choose when you generate a line.
How many countries and IPs do you cover?
BuyProxy's residential network has 72.8M+ IPs and Core Residential targets 195+ countries. State and city targeting are available on Premium Residential. Coverage varies by location, so test the specific places you rely on.
Do my residential proxy credits expire?
No. Credits bought pay-as-you-go, and the GB included in a plan, never expire.
Which protocols are supported?
HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5, with username and password or IP authentication.
Can I target a specific city?
Not on Core Residential, which targets by country. Premium Residential supports state and city targeting (and ASN, device type and exclusions), with lists of the available places in your dashboard and API.
How fast are BuyProxy residential proxies?
We build for speed, but we don't publish a single speed figure because real performance depends on your target, location and time of day. Our guide to testing proxy speed includes a script that measures time to first byte and success rate on your own targets.
Can I resell residential proxies?
Yes, through the Reseller Program included on the Business and Advanced plans. Reselling outside the program is not permitted under the acceptable use policy.
Is there a free trial?
BuyProxy doesn't run a free-trial period. What it does have is a low barrier to testing: pay-as-you-go top-ups start at $5, credits never expire, and new accounts can ask us in chat, on Discord or by email for 100MB of free bandwidth. That is enough to benchmark the network against your own targets before you spend real money.
How can I pay?
Pay-as-you-go top-ups can be paid by card (through Stripe) or with crypto (through NOWPayments). Monthly and yearly plans are card-only. Top-ups of 100 GB or more add a 10% bonus.
Is it legal to use these proxies?
Using a proxy is legal in most places, but what you do through it still has to comply with the law, the target site's terms and BuyProxy's acceptable use policy. This is general information, not legal advice. Our guide to whether residential proxies are legal covers the practical points.
What is the difference between residential and datacenter proxies?
Datacenter IPs belong to hosting companies, are fast and easy to identify, and often get blocked on protected sites. Residential IPs belong to real home connections and blend in. See our residential vs datacenter comparison for the trade-offs.
